  • “What it teaches us as a nation is that: one, we must enter into contracts very carefully and very thoughtfully and that when government enters into contracts, government is a continuum, government does not end because one party has gone out of power. Government is a continuum and so you must be careful how you abrogate contracts with other individuals. That’s a lesson we should take from there.”

John Mahama via Straight Talk Africa (VOA)

Past few weeks I have come to really respect this man. I read a review of his book,  ‘My First Coup D’Etat’ and I was impressed. But in this interview discussing the ubiquitous issue of Judgement Debts, he starts of like the usual politician, blaming the previous government for abrogation of contracts and whatnots but then, identifies and comments on a weakness in his government’s performance past four years; leaving judgement debt decisions to the Attorney General’s discretion i.e. no proper structure for how the tax payer’s money is spent. And that’s something we rarely hear. And he shares what he has learnt from this misdoing. Like he says, “government is a continuum”!
